Last weekend (Saturday 3 March), Rachael Maskell MP attended the University of York Students’ Union’s Roses Fun Run to present medals to participants. The event celebrated the end of the ‘Run to Roses’ community challenges between the University of York and Lancaster University. Over the past 10 weeks, the campaign encouraged supporters to run, walk or move 60km to commemorate this 60th anniversary.
Participants were encouraged to run as many laps of the athletic track as they wanted, no matter their ability or age and a range of family-friendly activities were taking place alongside the fun run. Over 400 participants registered for the challenge, logging an impressive 27,148 kilometers and 3,978 activities across the 10 weeks of Run to Roses.
Rachael Maskell MP says:
“This kind of event brings together our community for a day of challenge but also fun. Exercise is a great way to support not only physical, but mental health, and therefore I really support this campaign by the University of York. After 60 years of competition and friendly rivalry between the two Universities, it’s great to see such a range of community and family events; and ofcourse, I was pleased to meet with all those taking part.”
Tanisha Jain (York Sport President) says:
“Roses is about more than just sport — it’s a celebration of community, and the Family Fun Run event showcased that. It was fantastic to see our students come together with local families and children at the event, creating lasting memories through exercise and physical activity.”
