Rachael Maskell, MP for York Central, recently met with a community interest company to discuss their work supporting those struggling with hoarding and loneliness.

Ms Maskell met with York-based Community Bees CIC, who have spent the past six years supporting those affected by the issues.

Community Bees particularly support those who have found themselves suffering from long-term hoarding behaviour; they also offer advice to help individuals with any issues that are “preventing them from living safely and independently.”

In their meeting with Ms Maskell, Community Bees raised how “hoarding disorder should be recognised as the serious mental health issue that it is.”

Ms Maskell said:
“Community Bees’ support for those struggling with hoarding is a truly invaluable service for York, that helps some of the most vulnerable in our society.

“I was so glad to be able to meet with them to discuss their amazing work, and the ways that I can assist them with their plans for prevention.

“Hoarding is such a complex issue, and it is one that requires deep understanding and compassion in order to be addressed.

“I am really keen to support Community Bees with their work on this, and to tackle the stigma surrounding the issues.”

Alice Bentley of Community Bees added:
“It was great to meet with Rachael Maskell to talk about how we can greater support people struggling with hoarding in the city.”
