Rachael Maskell was delighted to visit York College’s new purpose built Construction and Skills Centre. The York MP was given a guided tour of the purpose built building by York College Principal Alison Birkinshaw and Deputy Principal Louise Lawrence-Crockford. With two large workshop spaces, changing facilities, classroom and IT suites, the Centre will accommodate students studying brickwork, joinery, plastering and other related subjects. Employers in the construction industry have reported a skills shortage and the new Centre will enable the College to help meet this need.

Rachael Maskell MP says: “The construction and house building industry is crying out for skilled workers and York’s new Construction and Skills Centre is a modern state of the arts learning facility, which will enable students to gain these much needed skills. The new Centre will provide students with the options of gaining apprenticeships in a variety of skills as well as gaining qualifications in vocational courses. I should like to offer my very best wishes to the new students who will benefit from what I believe will become a Centre of Excellence.”
