On Monday, Rachael Maskell MP for York Central attended the declaration to make York the first Human Rights City in the UK.
From Bandung in Indonesia and Graz in Austria to Richmond, California in the US and Thies in Senegal, residents and authorities are looking at international human rights and putting them into action in their own communities.
Over Easter, Rachael Maskell MP attended the Gateway Centre in Front Street, Acomb, together with Councillor Janet Looker to hand over Easter eggs to York Food Banks. The Trussell Trust run the food bank in Acomb but they distribute food throughout York and have centres in Tang Hall, Bell Farm and the city centre.
On Monday (24 April) in the House of Commons, Rachael Maskell MP for York Central, called upon the Business Minister, Sajid Javid, to provide more help for small businesses in York which are struggling because of changes that the Government have made to Business Rates.
Voting in favour of an early General Election in Westminster this week, Rachael Maskell, Labour MP for York Central outlined Labour’s commitment to tackling Britain’s economic inequality, reversing the chronic under-investment in public services, and particularly our NHS, and to transform our country and our city with Labour’s agenda for change.
