Last Thursday (30/08) York Central MP, visited the Wilberforce Trust to meet with Chief Executive, Philippa Crowther, to learn about their work in York and the priorities of the people they work with.

The Wilberforce Trust works with the local community to support people with visual impairment, their families, friends and other carers. The Trust is an established organisation in York, with its roots dating back to the 1800s.

Ms Maskell was shown round The Living & Learning Zone, a purpose built area consisting of three rooms, with additional facilities of toilets, kitchen and on-site secure parking. The Living & Learning Zone, is a place where a variety of activities, such as art and crafts, cookery, daily living training, and computing training can take place to help and support people with sight loss and other disabilities.

Rachael Maskell MP says:
“We take for granted our ability to complete household tasks, like cooking and cleaning, but for people with sight disabilities there are hurdles to overcome. The Wilberforce Trust is committed to supporting people with sight loss and other disabilities.

“Everyone should be given equal opportunities in all aspects of life and the Trust is working hard to make this a reality.”
