Yesterday, Rachael Maskell MP for York Central was at the starting line at Clifford’s Tower for the York SkyRide with Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire.

Riding the 7km route through the traffic-free city-centre of York, Rachael Maskell said:
“I was really pleased to be at the start-line with Sir Gary Verity to set off on York’s SkyRide. It’s great to see so many people out on such a beautiful morning to take part in a day of cycling.

“SkyRide York is a brilliant introduction to bike-riding, whatever your level and experience. As a keen cyclist, I really enjoyed riding the 7km route through our city.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone involved, this event is great for all ages and it is especially good to see youngsters out on their bikes enjoying the route and activities.

“In the UK, around 3.1 million people ride a bicycle each month. It is good for you and is one of the easiest ways to exercise. It is also a fast growing sport as well as an important mode of transport. I will continue to do all I can to promote cycling in York and in Parliament.”
